COLUMBUS, Ohio – John Wainscott has been selected to the Ohio Police & Fire Board of Trustees as the retired police representative, filling the vacancy left by the passing of Trustee William Gallagher. Wainscott, who was sworn in on Nov. 29, assumes his trustee duties at the December 2011 Board meeting. Wainscott will serve out the remainder of the retired police representative term that ends in June 2012, and will be eligible to run for a full subsequent term in the spring.
Wainscott served in the Cincinnati Police Department for 17 years before retiring in 2006 with the rank of sergeant. Wainscott currently serves on the board of the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, has worked for the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and was appointed by Governor Strickland in 2010 as an Ohio Casino Control Commissioner. He also served as a deputy sheriff for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office from 1985-1989 and as a military police officer for the U.S. Army from 1980-1983.
In addition to the six elected members of the OP&F Board who represent police officers and firefighters (two active police officers, two active firefighters, one retired police officer and one retired firefighter), three investment experts are also appointed as trustees: one by the Governor, one by the Treasurer of State and a joint appointment by the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.
