Job Description Summary

Applies principles of accounting to analyze investment information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Analyzes investment information to recommend the appropriate investment transaction to be posted to the investment accounting system (PAM).

Compiles journal entries for investment transactions, valuation, amortization, accretion, income accruals and gains/losses for both public markets and alternative investments instruments.

Analyzes financial reports provided by the Fund’s external investment managers, securities lending agents and the custodian banks detailing assets, liabilities and partners’ capital accounts for reconciliation and subsequent correction.

Reviews and recommends improvements to the internal control environment in the investment accounting and operations processes.

Researches into characteristics of new and existing investment strategies to recommend the most appropriate accounting treatment.

Reconciles the general ledger (CODA) and the investment accounting system (PAM) balances for the investment related accounts on the Fund’s financial statements.

Assists in the review and implementation of investment related GASB pronouncements.

Compiles reports to ascertain accurate billings/invoices from external vendors (market data suppliers, foreign tax consultants, custodian banks etc).

Provides responses to external auditor queries on investment accounting and prepares schedules for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Works with legal group to define the Custody Operating Procedures

Works with legal group to complete international tax forms and obtain treaty tax rates for international public holdings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises one or more Portfolio Specialist(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Additionally, the individual must have excellent understanding of investment accounting concepts and an in-depth knowledge of GAAP accounting. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills. Possess at least intermediate skills with MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook. Investment accounting experience is preferred and working knowledge of PAM for Investments system would be a plus.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting or Finance and four years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience CPA is preferable.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Prefer candidates with CPA or eligible to sit for the CPA license examination.
