OP&F's Memorial Park will be host to Blue Light ceremony in November

Each year during the holiday season, COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) asks citizens and law enforcement agencies across the country to support Project Blue Light to remember Ohio's fallen police officers and firefighters. This year, on Saturday, November 20, OP&F will host the event at the Ohio Police and Fire Memorial Park, 140 East Town Street, Columbus, OH 43215, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Cincinnati Police Honor Guard will present colors and the Columbus Pipe and Drum corps will be on hand. Scheduled to speak are Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro, serving as guest speaker, OP&F Executive Director William Estabrook, and Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

The trees in the park, to be adorned in blue and red lights will be lit at the end of the ceremony and will remain illuminated throughout the holiday season - symbolizing police officers and firefighters who have given the ultimate sacrifice. The blue lights also thank those men and women who continue to serve and protect their communities.

Nearly 10,000 surviving families comprise COPS, a national, non-profit organization that assists the surviving families of officers killed in the line of duty.
