Employers
Municipalities employing full-time police officers and firefighters are at the root of financing retirement benefits for OP&F members and their families.
OP&F receives income to fund benefits and expenses from three main sources: active member contributions, employer contributions and investment income. Each month more than 28,300 Ohio police officers and firefighters have contributions deducted from their pay and forwarded to OP&F. Each quarter, nearly 930 municipalities throughout Ohio are billed for their share of the contributions needed to finance the promised pension and benefits. The current contribution rates are 19.5 percent for police officers and 24 percent for firefighters.
