COLUMBUS, OhioThe Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund (OP&F) recently donated over $2,300 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to go toward relief efforts associated with the terrorist attacks on September 11. All of the money was collected from OP&F employee donations. A portion of the donation came from OP&F's Christmas Charity fund, which is also generated by employee fundraisers.
The donations are our way to honor, support and remember our fallen firefighters, police officers, fellow citizens, their families and loved ones, said Executive Director William J. Estabrook. I am overwhelmed and proud that our small organization was able to generate this much support.
Estabrook has designated the next three Fridays as Red, White and Blue Days, encouraging staff to wear the nation's colors and to donate money for relief efforts. A different charity associated with the relief efforts will be chosen each week to receive the money. He has also authorized one hour of paid leave for employees who wish to donate blood.
Created in 1965 as a result of an act passed by the Ohio General Assembly, the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund is a multi-employer pension fund. OP&F, one of five statewide retirement systems, provides retirement and health care benefits to more than 50,000 retirees, active members, survivors and beneficiaries across the United States. OP&F currently employs 165 staff members.
