Member survey results presented to OP&F Board

A survey was mailed in November 2006 to a random 2,973 members representing a sample of active and retired members as well as survivors. The survey was scientifically designed and conducted by a professional research organization to assure the results are statistically valid. Members completed the survey by returning a paper questionnaire or using an online link. Approximately 38 percent of the members receiving the survey responded and properly represented OP&F�s membership.

Results of the survey were presented to the Board of Trustees in December. The OP&F Board and staff plans to review the data and use it to assist them in making future decisions as well us understand what members currently think about OP&F�s membership, Trustees, pension benefits, health care coverage, customer service, newsletter, Web site and communication.

Some of the results of the survey presented to the Board include:

  • Most members have a positive overall impression of OP&F (86 percent very favorable or somewhat favorable) and the Board of Trustees (74 percent very favorable or somewhat favorable).
  • Most members consider membership in OP&F an excellent or good value (68 percent).
  • Among members who contacted OP&F in the past two years, nearly all were satisfied with the service they received (86 percent).
  • Active members do not feel well informed about pension benefits and health care coverage and are less likely to thoroughly read the OP&F quarterly newsletter, the Member�s Report.
  • Most members are comfortable with what they know about pension benefits and confident that those benefits are secure. Although, active members are interested in receiving more information regarding pension benefits.
  • Overall interest in increased online communication is low, but highest among active members.
  • Members consider the volume of information they receive from OP&F appropriate and the content informative and honest.
  • Most members rely on OP&F for information about retirement issues.
