The Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund has recently contacted approximately 13,000 retired members alerting them of a data breach containing their personal information. Although the breach was caused by a former employee of the Fund, OP&F does not anticipate that the individual will use the data for any malicious intent or unlawful purpose.
On August 25, a letter was sent to all affected members. The Board of Trustees feel that it is important for members to be aware of the incident so they can monitor the situation and notify OP&F of any improper use of their name, address or Social Security Number. If an OP&F member has not received a letter, then their information was not compromised.
OP&F has taken recourse against the former employee and is now taking steps to prevent the additional disclosure of this information.
If members become aware of any improper use of personal information, please contact OP&F’s General Counsel at (614) 628-8361. OP&F emphasizes that this incident will not affect any benefits or the security of benefits either now or in the future.
