COLUMBUS, Ohio – David J. Owsiany is the newest member of the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund (OP&F) Board of Trustees after being appointed as an investment expert member by former Treasurer of State Kevin Boyce. Owsiany, who was sworn in on January 18, will serve a four year term that expires in January 2015.
“Mr. Owsiany’s interest and commitment to serve Ohio is commendable, and he clearly meets the statutory requirements to be appointed to the OP&F Board,” said Boyce. “Indeed, his broad array of skills, including finance, executive management, and budget experience will add tremendous value to the OP&F Board’s efforts.”
Owsiany is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his Juris Doctor from the Washington University School of Law. Owsiany is currently the Executive Director of the Ohio Dental Association, and has previously held positions at the Ohio Department of Insurance and Nationwide Insurance Company. Owsiany has also worked at the Fourth District Appellate Court in Quincy, Illinois and the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C.
In addition to the six elected members of the OP&F Board who represent police officers and firefighters (two active police officers, two active firefighters, one retired police officer and one retired firefighter), three investment experts are also appointed as trustees: one by the Governor, one by the Treasurer of State and a joint appointment by the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.
Created in 1965 as a result of an act passed by the Ohio General Assembly, OP&F is a multi-employer pension fund serving more than 53,000 members. OP&F provides pension, disability, and survivor benefits to Ohio’s full-time police officers and firefighters and their eligible beneficiaries and sponsors a health care program for eligible benefit recipients.
